Daredevil Regrettably, even though Daredevil was a movie I extremely enjoyed, the reviews on this ranged from good to the worst movie ever to be based upon a comic book. I imagine those reviewers are too young to remember the movie "Swamp Thing". I know Ben Affleck isn't Oscar material but I found his grim attitude an accurate reflection of somebody who went through the traumas that Matt Murdock went through as a child. While most male audience members found Jennifer Garner as Elektra to be the most enjoyable part of the movie, I was extremely intrigued by the portrayal of Matt as a young boy and the trials he went through in learning how to deal with his altered state. Agent Cody Banks Even though this movie is aimed at the younger crowd, as an adult approaching middle age - heaven help me when that happens - I found Agent Cody Banks to be an excellent film. I've always liked Frankie Muniz in "Malcolm in the Middle"; in fact I find him to be the most enjoyable part of the show. With that in mind I can't call myself surprised that I found this film to also be extremely enjoyable. Sure, its hokey in how far it goes beyond the bounds of credibility, but I consider that part of the charm . Bulletptoof Monk I was so excited by the trailer to Bulletproof Monk that I went and saw it on the first day that it was scheduled in the theatres. It was disappointing to see that it as showing in Century 23 as opposed to the big screen of Century 21. Regrettably, I had went to see it at the expense of needed sleep after an all-nighter involving web site development. Therefore, in between the exciting special-effects laden martial arts action that rooted me to my seat, I started nodding off when the plotline started to drag. Otherwise, Chow Yun-Fat played a terrific spiritual monk with no name, Seann William Scott was an excellent choice as the thief named Kar - although you have to wonder how Jason Biggs would have played the part <<grin>> - and Jaime King provided a wealth of acting ability, eye candy and attitude as Jade. This movie is definitely a necessary addition to any moviegoers' memories. The Hulk Premiering Stardate 0306.20, to me the movie The Hulk is a big unknown. Sure, the trailer was terrific but so were the trailers for Daredevil and look what people thought of that movie. All I can tell you is that I'll be going as soon as it opens and am looking forward to what Industrial Light & Magic does with the CGI. I'm hoping for some great dynamic between Jennifer Connelly and Eric Bana but I'm not going to hold my breath for it as I didn't enjoy either "Black Hawk Down" or "A Beautiful Mind" myself. X2: X-Men United Okay, so the title sucks, but if you have viewed the trailer - and felt the adrenaline rush through your body - you know that this second movie in the X-Men series will rock. Premiering Stardate 0305.02, the sequel to the original X-Men move - X2: X-Men United - promises to be an exciting movie. If you have read the X-Men comic series in the past you have encountered the mutant registration angle and the paranoia against mutannts before. Having read the comic series in the past, you also know that this type of plotline has always been entertaining. I don't see that changing with the big screen. In addition, it will be interesting to see what they do with the newly introduced mutants Nightcrawler and Deathstryke. The Matrix Reloaded It is possible that it was the novelty of the movie - which may wear off after subsequent viewings - but upon walking out of the theatre, I felt that The Matrix Reloaded was better than the first movie in the trilogy - which itself was excellent. One of the major items that dazzled the eye were the special effects combined with the martial arts coreography. The fight scene between Neo and the numerous Mr. Smiths' had me on the edge of my seat and took my breath away. Some of the reviews I read didn't like the philosophy involved but I believe it had its place as preparation for the third movie. The only time I didn't like it was when the dialogue was rushed and the content hard to understand. Those people who watched the movie will know the scene I'm talking about. Instead of calling himself the Architect, he should have called himself the Obfuscator. |
